A church directory has been a printed book for four hundred years, and the good ones are filed by surname — not because surnames matter more than people, but because it is the only ordering that keeps a family together on the page. Open it at B and the Basseys are side by side, children and all.

Members keep their own entry right — phone, address, photograph — while name, birthday and family stay the church's record. Relationships are stored once and hold true from both ends, so a household draws as a tree on every entry it touches. One bulk invitation gets every member a link to their own page, which is the only way a directory ever becomes accurate.
